WORDATHON!

On your marks! Set! Go! And the race begins. Destination? The Word! What Word? The Word of God. Why? Lets gist! But first, I want to say that this post is for those of us who do not make use of any daily bible devotional. However, if you already have a devotional you make use of but for one reason or the other you want a fresh perspective on bible study things generally, then I say read on 🙂

Yes, a race to the Word. Only in this case, it is a never ending race. That is why it is called a Wordathon and not a Wordsprint. Wordathon simply means a never ending study of the word of God. Definition mine 😉

Why engage in a Wordathon if it is a never ending race? Who ordinarily on a normal day would become involved in a study that does not come to an end? Your answer is as good as mine. However, lets see some of the benefits of engaging in a Wordathon.

Just want to point out that it is a good idea to approach the study of the Word with a receptive and ready to learn attitude. Time spent studying the Word is time spent with Jesus. So, when you spend quality time studying the Word, the following things are bound to happen in your life. Talking out of experience. Lets go!

One: If you are someone who lacks boldness, consistent and sustained study of the Word makes you bold. How does that happen? I don’t know. But a trial will convince you.

Two: The quality of the decisions produced by your thought process or the conclusions you come to based on the happenings around you, is better than it used to be. In other words, consistent and sustained study of the Word of God increases your level of intelligence. How do I know? I know I am not intelligent on a normal day. But some people in my life actually think I am. I believe them because I think they have no reason to lie to me on this point. Or do they?

Three: If you’ve got fear in your heart for any reason whatsoever, consistent and sustained study of the Word of God deals with it, with or without your knowledge. In the place of fear, you discover you have joy, peace and a thankful heart!

Four: Character issues? Spending time with Jesus through the Word will give you strength of character and fizzle out the negative traits you battle with, without any help from you! I should know. Still seeing the effect of this in my life.

Five: Wisdom and understanding you will surely get whether you like it or not! 🙂

Six: When wisdom and understanding come in, you will notice that difficult situations seem to work themselves out. But you and I know that is not the case. That’s because the Word is at work 😉

Seven: Confidence or a boost of confidence comes in when things begin to work for good in your life and around you. So spending time with the Word gives you confidence or boosts your confidence level.

Eight: You have no choice but to become intimate with that person you spend a lot of time with. So spending time studying the Word brings about intimacy with Jesus. And once there is intimacy, you will discover that praise, worship and prayers just flow. Why? They become an expression of love for Jesus. This is because you cannot help but fall in love with that person you have become intimate with . . . Jesus!
